In this four week class series we will use the tools of meditation and somatic practice to work through the body to understand what has shaped us, and how we can rely on the body as a ground of connection and support for the work of social justice. We will practice together as Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) to feel ourselves and the world more deeply, and to make new choices in alignment with our longings. In community, we will explore re-establishing safety, boundaries, contradictions and trauma healing. This class brings the work of Generative Somatics into our dharma practice.

100% of our programming is sliding scale and no one will ever be turned away for lack of funds. Thank you for the gifts of your generosity and for supporting the work of East Bay Meditation Center and our beloved teachers who have volunteered their time. You are invited to make donations directly to the teachers to support their Dharma service.

Erika Lyla (she/her) is a somatics practitioner + therapist + medical advocate + activist + mother. Trained by generative somatics, Erika works with people to reveal their power, potential, and purpose. She guides with love and laughter towards life grounded in authenticity and shaped by dream. Erika lives on unceded Ohlone land with her partner and child.

René Rivera (he, him) is a leader and bridge-builder, working and learning in all the spaces in-between race, gender, and other perceived binaries, as a queer, mixed-race, trans man. He teaches heart-centered, trauma-informed meditation and mindfulness practices at East Bay Meditation Center (EBMC) and elsewhere. His path to spiritual leadership has included the Commit to Dharma and Practice in Action programs at EBMC and the Community Dharma Leaders program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. He works with the Ahimsa Collective as a restorative justice facilitator.
